Congratulations to all students of Division 10 on a successful year! It has been a real pleasure being your teacher, and I will remember you always.
Thank-you all for the lovely cards and gifts, I enjoyed reading every one of your kind words!
Wishing you all a fantastic summer holiday, and I hope to see you in some capacity next year. Finally, I leave you with a quote by Winnie the Pooh...
Our final Food Science class started with a focus on the children's inquiry into the use of eggshells in the garden. But our last trip to the garden turned into so much more- leading us into a lesson (and read aloud) on bees! Ask your child to share some of their knowledge.
The students noticed many bumble bees all over the paths. Together we respectfully and carefully moved them to the safety of the rose garden. It was a touching moment in the school year. Witnessing the teamwork, care and empathy the children displayed was heartwarming.
Books, PJs, stuffies, tents, treats, good friends... what could be better?
Today we welcomed some grade 3's from the Annex into our classroom, and together the students created a Collaborative Circle Painting.
With collaboration and teamwork at the heart of this project - students were called to make a circular or soft edged illustration, then move on to make a new design and/or add onto another persons design. The idea is that nobody owns any particular illustration, nobody covers another persons illustration, but everyone adds onto each others illustrations one by one as they move around the table. After making it all the way around the table students get to see what everyone else has done to complete their original design.
The painting has been hung up in our classroom, and will be there to welcome Division 10 and the Annex children back in September.
What a beautiful day for our Trout Lake Potluck Picnic. It was a busy afternoon, and my pictures don't catch all of the activities but provide a little taste of what was going on. There was a baseball game, a casual soccer game, water pistols, sun bathers (some with cucumber eye coverings!), playground games, we visited the Aboriginal Days Celebration, and of course enjoyed lots of tasty treats supplied by you all. By 2:30 they were exhausted, and the walk back required several boulevard rests in the grass. Thank-you for your generous contributions, I hope you enjoy the pictures!
And here we are in June! These kids did a wonderful job collaborating on our final class calendar. So much to do, and so little time left but June should prove to be a fun month. We have our Marimba Concert on June 15th, we'll continue working on Fractions in Math, finish up our Literature Circles, explore more Food Science, complete our French Grocery Flyers, and work our way to the year end field trip at Water Mania!

My name is Sara, and I'm excited to be the Division 10 teacher of a grade 3/4/5 learning community at Dickens this year! Here's a little bit about me- I'm Mom to an 8 year old boy, an educator, artist, vegetable gardener, yoga enthusiast, foodie, cook, pet chicken keeper, nature lover, hiker, and in my "past life" an interior architectural designer.
