Hi Families,
Division 10 and 11 are studying Simple Machines as part of our Science Theme work this term. They have been learning about the 6 simple machines and how they make work easier. We are now starting a project where students are asked to invent their own simple or compound machines. Below are their instructions:
Parents, we need your help by collecting materials at home or at the store if needed. These should not be expensive materials as their inventions will be simple versions of their designs. Examples of materials would be: Elastics, wooden spools, duct tape, dowels, corrugated paper, strings etc. Please bring materials in on Tuesday Feb.14. They will be given 2-3 weeks to design, experiment and build their machines during our Science theme time. It would be beneficial if students continue their exploration at home and share their successes and problem solving as they enjoy their process. Researching some designs online is also helpful. Here is one link we have found useful for some good ideas for designing simple machines. http://pbskids.org/designsquad/parentseducators/resources/index.html?category=simplemachines Happy engineering everybody.
